Chapter 19 · Section Five, Stage 3: Probe
Forays: How Practice Makes the Crossing
The foray is the preparation that makes the full crossing survivable.
The question this chapter asks
What is the smallest version of this crossing you could make in the next ninety days?
Practice
25 minutes
Build the foray
Plan the smallest real version of your crossing. Date, place, cost, who goes with you, and who you debrief with. Put the date on your calendar and tell the person you will debrief with.
For the group
Design a foray together. Each person describes the smallest real version of their crossing, something they could do in the next 90 days. The group asks one question about each foray: "What would make it real?"
For the leader
"Real" means specific. "I'll explore options" is not a foray. "I'll go to Reynosa for two weeks in October" is a foray. Push for specifics.
If your group prays together
Test everything. Hold on to what is good.
